Have you heard? "Math isn't about the numbers" →
It’s true — math isn’t about the numbers.  And, what’s more, a huge cornerstone of my approach to teaching math is based on the belief that far more students would appreciate math, instead of shying quickly away from it, if they could see that.  How nice to have a student’s own words verify my idealism.

The Woods
I just spent 5 hours in the woods.  I was shown around the gorgeous woods of my school’s campus by the three seniors who will help me lead an “Immersion Week” course in wilderness survival and awareness.  We walked along a frozen stream and saw deer, dog and raccoon tracks (including a gorgeous string of delicate sand grain footprints tracked across the ice); scoped out...
